Life In A Luxury Hotel

Life In A Luxury Hotel

I recently took a small vacation to Naples Florida with my husband back in January of this year. We stayed at the wonderful Ritz-Carlton Resort.
As soon you enter the lobby you could tell why this is a five-star resort

The interiors were pure luxury. The design of the hotel was not your typical Florida hotel design. They didn’t use what you would expect of pastel beach colors. The only flamingo pink I could found was in the gift shop.
The design of the hotel was more of my style of new traditional chic. Formal furniture that has clean lines, with comfort in mind, the use of luxury fabrics, and beautiful lighting. Always a little sparkle.
Want to be inspired to have luxury hotel interiors? Here is way to incorporate in your home.

Keep it simple don’t over clutter the room with furnishing and accessories.

As a designer, I recommend to achieve the new traditional style that the furniture is a classic silhouette with new details.

RC seating

For seating furniture, it’s about comfort and clean lines.

I will tell you that lighting is always importing. I love to add a little sparkle. With finishes and details for example, crystals in chandeliers, metal finishes, and glass bases or shades. The sparkle makes the room sings.

When it comes to window treatments new traditional style is not heavy drapery and eliminate swag valence. Keep it simple.

I love how they built a valence around the window treatment, so you cannot see the hardware.
This was one of the only Florida details that I could find in the resort with stationary shutters.

In the bath can we say marble. The marble has a glossy finish that adds a little sparkle. A glam mirror with backlighting will make anybody look gorgeous. If you have room to add a water closet for privacy, how luxurious is that?

Let’s talk about the bed, I think the biggest trend I’ve been seeing for the past five years is beautiful oversize upholster headboards. Wouldn’t you love to have breakfast in bed delivered to you this bed?

Luxury living doesn’t have to be an expensive hotel vacation. You can also have that five-star hotel design in your home.

I must thank the staff at the Ritz-Carlton Naples Florida resort. The staff at the resort was so friendly, polite, professional, and always had a smile. They treated us like we were the most important guest that was staying at the hotel.
Special thanks to Danielle Travis the public relations manager at the resort for allowing me access to fresh room for my photos.

A few years ago, I was working at a furniture store as in-house interior designer.

Two ladies came in the store they were siblings. “They were just looking.” After having a casual conversation, I gathered some more information as to what they were looking for.

One sister proceeds to tell me, “My sister she needs Design Intervention” of course a laugh came afterwards.  She purchased a house on the lake three years ago, and never did anything she only has what was left at the house and that includes two green leather swivel chairs, kitchen table, couple wooden of barstools, and a white bed

My new client Sue “I just don’t know where to start? “I go there to get away on the weekends and I have friends come over and watch movies and just hang out at the lake during the summer, I love the place but just don’t know where to start” one of the first questions I asked was “so you have the 2 green chairs and where does the other people sit?” The sister ” we sit on the floor and drink wine and we are too old for that. ” First clue? More seating is needed.

After getting more understanding of the “Just looking answer and really knowing that she needed to make her a weekend retreat her sanctuary with new furnishings, paint, window treatments, and make it comfortable just not for her but for her guests.

We began our design intervention with the in-home evaluation of her lake house.

I love to have my clients answers a few questions so I understand what they like and dislike, what their budget is, and what style they would like to go with. Sometimes my clients really don’t know what to answer because they may not have a style or a budget in mind because, they don’t know what prices are or they might not know what would work in their space.

After a couple of weeks, I had my clients come back in to the store. I did a presentation with her. I called the project the Casual Elegance Lake House. This included a floor plan, fabric samples, window treatments, wallpaper, and floor covering.

Like many of my clients they don’t do a whole house at one time. We choose to do a room at a time. This took approximately about six months to complete, once it was finished my client was thrilled she finally felt her lake house was her sanctuary. Elegant, but casual enough to sit, relax, or hang out at the lake and enjoy movies with her friends.

Top Trend for 2017

It’s a throwback to the 90’s. Yes we’re Ice Ice Baby again. In fashion and home decor. How, you ask? If you look at what’s happening in fashion today, it’s reflecting on interiors.

1, Velvet

The velvet baby doll dress and chokers that we wore in the 90’s are now in fashion again and anything velvet in home decor. You see this with upholstery furniture, beautiful throw pillows, and lush window treatments.

2, Jewel tones

Jewel tones are rich in color and have depth.

When I first started my career in design, I was working at Ethan Allen as a designer in the mid 90’s Ethan Allen had a collection of fabrics that were in jewel tones. The fabrics had a repeating color of Sapphire, Emerald, Amethyst, Rubies, and gold. They had coordinating patterns a damask, stripes, and plaid. This was a sophisticated bold aesthetics.

Now these colors are being seen in residential designs. By way of vibrant wall colors and rich velvet upholstery.

I feel you’ll see this trend developing more in late 2017 or in 2018.

3, Gold

The final trend gold or back in the days we used to call it brass. Today’s gold is more modern and not the ornate brass from the 90’s.

What these three trends have in common are modern, sophisticated, and luxury. They display a more mature style.

Tips for pet friendly products for your home.

Being a mother of 2 fur babies, a chocolate Labrador name Snickers and a beautiful black cat name Sammy, I have learned how to select interior products that are resistance against pets and daily use.

Flooring: Carpet or hard surface has positive and negative uses for pet owner’s.
Carpet; Positive is soft on your feet, provides warmth and is inexpensive to install. The negatives, they are hair collectors, pet stains and odors are easily noticeable. Use of a good vacuum cleaner and a shampoo carpet deep cleaner will help prolong the carpet wear and tear.

Hardwood floors positive, easy to clean pet hair and dust. They add value to your home. Negative; wood flooring will show scratches from pet claws and pet urine will leave dark spots. Solution to restore wood flooring is striping the floor surface and refinishing them. Urine stains maybe visible after refinishing the floors. Another option is laminate wood flooring a durable and a cost-effective alternative with a resin top cover.

Bamboo is a new alternative because it is the hardest of the hardwood flooring options this makes for a good pet friendly choice. Pet stains and scratches still occur but will not be as noticeable.

Tile flooring; Positive is easy to care for pet owners because it does not scratch easily and pet stains will most likely not stain the tile. Negatives are tile can chip or crack and grout can discolor so make sure a good grout sealer is used to block staining.

There is new pet friendly carpet available on the market so when shopping for flooring asks for these products.

Upholstery seating, as we would like are pets not to jump up on the furniture, they are going to still do it. Microfiber fabric is stain resistance. The material is the tightest weave fabric and has the most thread count, this makes for a durable fabric. Microfibers have improved in the past few years with colors, patterns, and texture. Fabric seating will stain, holds pet odors, and tears. You can only use Febreze for so long.

I have found leather to be the best for material for seating. Positives are it is hair resistance, and easy to clean off muddy paw prints and it does not hold pet smells. Negatives are claws can scratch and over years the leather softens up, and will break down and tears easily. When purchasing a leather sofa make sure it is protective leather which is treated leather and is more scratch resistance.
