Life In A Luxury Hotel

Life In A Luxury Hotel

I recently took a small vacation to Naples Florida with my husband back in January of this year. We stayed at the wonderful Ritz-Carlton Resort.
As soon you enter the lobby you could tell why this is a five-star resort

The interiors were pure luxury. The design of the hotel was not your typical Florida hotel design. They didn’t use what you would expect of pastel beach colors. The only flamingo pink I could found was in the gift shop.
The design of the hotel was more of my style of new traditional chic. Formal furniture that has clean lines, with comfort in mind, the use of luxury fabrics, and beautiful lighting. Always a little sparkle.
Want to be inspired to have luxury hotel interiors? Here is way to incorporate in your home.

Keep it simple don’t over clutter the room with furnishing and accessories.

As a designer, I recommend to achieve the new traditional style that the furniture is a classic silhouette with new details.

RC seating

For seating furniture, it’s about comfort and clean lines.

I will tell you that lighting is always importing. I love to add a little sparkle. With finishes and details for example, crystals in chandeliers, metal finishes, and glass bases or shades. The sparkle makes the room sings.

When it comes to window treatments new traditional style is not heavy drapery and eliminate swag valence. Keep it simple.

I love how they built a valence around the window treatment, so you cannot see the hardware.
This was one of the only Florida details that I could find in the resort with stationary shutters.

In the bath can we say marble. The marble has a glossy finish that adds a little sparkle. A glam mirror with backlighting will make anybody look gorgeous. If you have room to add a water closet for privacy, how luxurious is that?

Let’s talk about the bed, I think the biggest trend I’ve been seeing for the past five years is beautiful oversize upholster headboards. Wouldn’t you love to have breakfast in bed delivered to you this bed?

Luxury living doesn’t have to be an expensive hotel vacation. You can also have that five-star hotel design in your home.

I must thank the staff at the Ritz-Carlton Naples Florida resort. The staff at the resort was so friendly, polite, professional, and always had a smile. They treated us like we were the most important guest that was staying at the hotel.
Special thanks to Danielle Travis the public relations manager at the resort for allowing me access to fresh room for my photos.

Why I use a life coach

Canva image

Why may you want to have a life coach? Because sometimes you feel out of balance or just need some perspective on what to do next in life.  That’s how I feel lately and sat down with a life coach Jillian Johnson https://jillianj.com/  For me it was trying to put all the puzzle pieces together and have a roadmap of what’s was around the corner.

Canva image

You ask what is a life coach? It is the process addresses specific personal goals, business successes, and help discover obstacles that are in their way. They make you have accountability for your action and commit to your goals. They draw out a map for your action, so you can get what you want out of life.

What heck does this have to do with interior design? A lot if you think about it. an Interior Designer is a life coach for your home. I draw a map (Floor Plans) and give you suggestions to improve your life within your home through balance and function with interior design. This helps you find what is blocking you from moving forward in the design process. By taking actions to set goals of making your home or office reflect your lifestyle and tell a story. Many of my clients will say that they dislike how the room looks and never use it. This is usually due to how the furniture is the placed, color, or even the lighting, all of which can throw a room off.

This is where I listen to what your need and wants are for space. These are the same steps that a life coach will take for their clients.

pexels-photo

The steps for your home will be:

  1. Questionnaire to find out what are your needs and wants
  2. Come up with a plan of action
  3. Rendering
  4. Samples
  5. Shopping list
  6. Final install of your new room.

This is a process to achieve your goal of reflecting what your lifestyle is and story.

If your home needs an Interior life coach, let’s refresh, remove, and redesign and discover what are the obstacles in your home or office.

The Fifth Wall – Ceiling Design

Have you just laid in bed, looking up at the ceiling and wonder why does it have to be white?

If you ever look at ceilings notice they are just plain white. 90% of all ceilings are The Fifth Wall white boring lacking interest doesn’t say anything except I’m a flat surface.

Well your ceilings doesn’t have to be the boring flat no life colorless plain surface. It can be anything you want it to be, by adding bold colors with paint. Why not a gorgeous bright red glossy finish or rich black color even perhaps a light fresh sky blue to make that ceiling rise above the room

Tin Panels

In the Victorian era, they would use tin panels. The tin panels were embossed with beautiful pattern details. It made for a wonderful architectural detail.

Tongue And Groove

Mid-Century style homes from the 50’s & 60’s used tongue and groove wood slates for ceilings designs with exposed beams. This was considered a modern detail.

Today you have many options to cover your ceiling. For example reclaimed lumber is very hot right now. You can also use fabric for pattern, texture, and warmth.

Wall covering ceiling

People don’t think of their ceiling as another wall but if you look at it it’s your fifth wall, like the vertical wall are flat so are ceilings another flat surface. Unlike floors you don’t need heavy duty materials to protect your ceiling because you not going be walking on them. Try using wallpaper for a interesting design feature. A great example for this application would be in a small half-bath.

For instance, if you live in the older home with plaster ceilings that may have cracks from water damage but you do not want to pay the cost of repairs of plaster.  This would be a great opportunity to and cover your ceilings with a unique and different finish.

Accessories Lake house

A few years ago, I was working at a furniture store as in-house interior designer.

Two ladies came in the store they were siblings. “They were just looking.” After having a casual conversation, I gathered some more information as to what they were looking for.

One sister proceeds to tell me, “My sister she needs Design Intervention” of course a laugh came afterwards.  She purchased a house on the lake three years ago, and never did anything she only has what was left at the house and that includes two green leather swivel chairs, kitchen table, couple wooden of barstools, and a white bed

My new client Sue “I just don’t know where to start? “I go there to get away on the weekends and I have friends come over and watch movies and just hang out at the lake during the summer, I love the place but just don’t know where to start” one of the first questions I asked was “so you have the 2 green chairs and where does the other people sit?” The sister ” we sit on the floor and drink wine and we are too old for that. ” First clue? More seating is needed.

After getting more understanding of the “Just looking answer and really knowing that she needed to make her a weekend retreat her sanctuary with new furnishings, paint, window treatments, and make it comfortable just not for her but for her guests.

We began our design intervention with the in-home evaluation of her lake house.

I love to have my clients answers a few questions so I understand what they like and dislike, what their budget is, and what style they would like to go with. Sometimes my clients really don’t know what to answer because they may not have a style or a budget in mind because, they don’t know what prices are or they might not know what would work in their space.

Hand Rendering Lake house

After a couple of weeks, I had my clients come back in to the store. I did a presentation with her. I called the project the Casual Elegance Lake House. This included a floor plan, fabric samples, window treatments, wallpaper, and floor covering.

Like many of my clients they don’t do a whole house at one time. We choose to do a room at a time. This took approximately about six months to complete, once it was finished my client was thrilled she finally felt her lake house was her sanctuary. Elegant, but casual enough to sit, relax, or hang out at the lake and enjoy movies with her friends.

Staging Your Home For A Quick Sale

How can you make your home stand out during the busiest time of year for real estate? By staging it to sell.

Home staging is preparing a residence for sale in the real estate marketplace. The goal of staging is to make a home appealing to the highest number of potential buyers, thereby selling a property more swiftly and for top asking price. Staging techniques focus on improving a property’s appeal by transforming it into a welcoming and attractive home.

Before Home staging 906035CE-9F66-4061-A1A8-F9F1C6C50803

After Home staging 7444E2B6-102B-4C64-8DC2-042FA65025D7 461BCBFA-0136-4EAF-B98B-9DD0BB8B4C20

First impressions are very important in selling your home. That’s why home staging is so essential to make that first impression a good and lasting one for anyone who enters your home or view it on line. Currently 90% of all real estate is seen on line before potential buyers will step in to any home.

Home staging can reduce a listing’s time on the market by one third to half, and could fetch as much as 6% to 20% more than a non- staged.

According to National Association of Realtors

Most important rooms to be staged:

 Rank of Importance: Room

1 Living Room

2 Kitchen

3 Master Bedroom

4 Dining Room

5 Bathroom

6 Children’s Bedroom

7 Guest Bedroom

Home staging is not a major remodeling project at all. In many cases it involves just rearranging furniture, decluttering, and cleaning.  Priority is space planning.  This is important because you want to show the scale of the room, function of the space, and help the future owner to visualize them self-living there. Remember the goal is to sell the home.
